Alessandra Biaggi Wins Prized Endorsement

Named a Bold Progressive Champion by the Progressive Change Campaign Committee

Alessandra Biaggi, seeking the Democratic nomination for the New York State Senate in District 34, today was named a 2018 Champion by the Progressive Change Campaign Committee. The PCCC recognizes candidates from around the country who are fighting for progressive priorities and looking out for the needs of everyday families. Seventy candidates nationwide have been named 2018 Champions.

The Progressive Change Campaign Committee is a million-member grassroots organization building power at the local, state, and federal levels, and advocating for economic priorities such as Social Security expansion, debt-free college education, Wall Street reform, and the public option.

Biaggi’s opponent in the Democratic primary on Thursday, Sept. 13 is incumbent Jeff Klein. Klein formed a now-dissolved conference with seven other Democratic state senators who caucused for the last seven years with the Republican Conference in Albany. Biaggi has been endorsed by more than five dozen organizations and is already assured a spot on the ballot under the Working Families party line in the general election, scheduled for Nov. 6. District 34 includes much of the Bronx, all of Pelham and a section of Mount Vernon in Westchester County.

The PCCC has raised more than $25 million to support progressive candidates and committees from small-dollar, grassroots donations, including $1.1 million to support Elizabeth Warren’s Senate run in 2012. In 2017, 50 candidates who were supported by the PCCC went on to victory, flipping 26 seats from red to blue.
