Westchester Women Endorse Alessandra Biaggi
Westchester Women’s Democratic Alliance & Catherine Parker, Board of Legislators, Support Democratic State Senate Candidate in Sept. 13 Primary
The Westchester Women’s Democratic Alliance issued the following statement today about the Democratic Party primary in District 34, which includes parts of Mt. Vernon and Pelham.
“The Westchester Women's Democratic Alliance is happy to endorse Alessandra Biaggi. It is imperative for the women of Westchester County, and for the women of the entire State, that our interests are fully represented in the New York State Senate. Over the course of his tenure, Ms. Biaggi's opponent has at best failed to take actions in the best interest of women, and at worst, has stood in the way of the advancement of women, families, and the people of New York State. Ms. Biaggi has not only exhibited an understanding of the issues facing her constituents, but has also committed to making sure that her constituents will be forcefully represented in the Senate.”
Catherine Parker, the Majority Leader of the Westchester County Board of Legislators, has also endorsed Biaggi.
“We are at a pivotal time in New York history. We either work to ensure that we elect policy makers who will represent our values or we continue on with a state senate that is more aligned with the policies of Donald Trump than with the majority of New Yorkers,” Majority Leader Parker said. “Alessandra Biaggi will stand with us on sensible gun laws. Alessandra Biaggi will ensure that women in New York will be able to make their own decisions regarding reproductive healthcare. Alessandra Biaggi will fight for our environment. Alessandra Biaggi will fight the policies of Donald Trump that hurt New Yorkers. Most importantly, Alessandra Biaggi will work with the State Senate Democratic Conference led by Senator Andrea Stewart Cousins, not because it’s a transactional decision to “ride the blue wave”, but because that is truly where her values align. Alessandra Biaggi is with us, the progressives and Democrats of Westchester and the Bronx. Please join me in supporting Alessandra Biaggi for NYS Senator, District 34.”
Alessandra Biaggi said, “It means a great deal to me to have the support of active, leading women like the Westchester Women’s Democratic Alliance and Majority Leader Catherine Parker as we fight to safeguard women’s rights, work to protect our climate, and support common sense gun laws in New York State. As State Senator, I will fight everyday to pass the Reproductive Health Act and Comprehensive Contraceptive Coverage Act to ensure that reproductive justice is a priority. I will advocate to protect the SAFE Act, fully fund its ammunition database, and work to pass the Extreme Risk Protection Order Bill and the Climate and Community Protection Act.”
The Westchester Women's Democratic Alliance is a group of 1,300+ democratic women, and we are growing. We are single, married, moms, grandmas, aunts, and sisters. We are ready to capitalize on the momentum of the 2016 election and its aftermath to make sure that our voices are heard and our communities are safe, happy, and healthy places for all their residents.
After serving as Rye City Council Member since 2007, Catherine Parker was elected to the Westchester County Legislature in November 2013 and re-elected in 2015 and 2017 to represent the constituents of the 7th Legislative District (Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Rye, Part of Harrison and Part of New Rochelle). Legislator Parker was selected as Majority Leader of the Democratic Caucus for the 2018-2019 Legislative Term.
